NATURAL FANCY PURPLE COLORED DIAMONDS

Colored diamonds — often referred to as “fancy diamonds” — are a rare and captivating variety of natural diamonds that exhibit remarkable hues not seen in traditional white stones. In gemology, rarity plays a major role in determining a diamond’s value — and fancy colored diamonds are among the rarest.

Roughly one in every 10,000 natural diamonds displays a fancy color. This extreme rarity makes them highly coveted by collectors and jewelry lovers alike. Fancy diamonds span an impressive spectrum, including pink, yellow, blue, orange, red, green, gray, and purple.

Unlike white diamonds, which are valued for the absence of color (graded on the GIA’s D-to-Z scale), fancy colored diamonds increase in value as their hue becomes richer and more vivid. These stones fall beyond the traditional scale, with deeper, brighter colors commanding the highest prices.

There are 12 main color categories, more than 90 secondary tones, nine intensity levels, and over 230 color combinations. Some fancy diamonds carry blended tones influenced by secondary colors such as gray, brown, or pink. The most desirable purple diamonds have strong, saturated coloring with minimal dilution.

Among the rarest are natural fancy purple diamonds. Their regal beauty and romantic violet hue create a unique visual appeal. While often mistaken for pink diamonds, true purple diamonds are distinct — deeper in tone, cooler in character, and stunningly luxurious.

One of the most well-known purple diamonds is the “Royal Purple Heart” — a symmetrical heart-shaped stone weighing over 7 carats, renowned for its exceptional color and perfect cut.
