How import charges work

Duty and tax are settled on arrival

For deliveries outside the US, duty and local tax are assessed by the carrier or customs when your parcel arrives, not at checkout.

Duty follows the material

Loose diamonds are exempt from customs duty in most of the countries we cover — but local VAT or sales tax on the full value still applies almost everywhere, including the EU. Finished jewelry is usually dutiable too, and the rate depends on whether the mount is gold or platinum.

Tax is charged on the landed value

Most countries apply their VAT or sales tax to the item value plus duty, so the tax line sits above the headline rate.

Please check these figures yourself

This tool gives an estimate, not a quote — and it is not a substitute for checking with your own local customs authority. Rates change, some destinations in this calculator are marked as estimated rather than verified, and the final assessment is always made by customs in your country, including any handling fee your carrier adds. Please double-check the figures shown here before you rely on them, especially for a high-value order. For a written estimate on a specific order, .
